Delta Spirit On World Cafe
Urgent and anthemic, "Trashcan" pulled at heartstrings back in 2008 when Delta Spirit dropped Ode To Sunshine. Its sophomore album, History From Below, builds on Sunshine's high-energy rock 'n' roll. World Cafe Raw and energetic, Delta Spirit has built a reputation as spitfire, bar-room rompers with a compelling, spiritual lyricism. Trashcans and orchestral bass drums accent their hard-hitting live show. The band's rollicking twang and tight harmonies carry through to the record -- History From Below is Delta Spirit's latest, a consistent follow-up to the anthem-filled Ode To Sunshine.

Matt Vasquez discusses the tale from the "Ballad of Vitaly" -- a tragic narrative which the band put to song, a la Woody Guthrie -- his admiration for historian Howard Zinn, and his casual collaboration with friends John McCauley of Deer Tick and Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes called MG and V. The band performed a set on the stage of World Cafe Live. Copyright 2010 WXPN-FM. To see more, visit http://www.xpn.org/.
